If abuse-deterrent becomes the new deterrent for safe prescribing, a decline in drug abuse and overdose could be easily achieved.
Currently, some medical insurance companies in the state of North Carolina are making it difficult for doctors to prescribe abuse-deterrent drugs and making them unaffordable for patients. Action must be taken at the state level for these abuse deterrent drugs to become easier to access, in order to help achieve a significant decline in drug abuse. Until action is taken, the battle against prescription drug abuse in North Carolina cannot be won.
