(IT-NEWSWIRE.COM, July 06, 2015 ) London, UK -- Apple's iOS enjoyed a surge in popularity during the opening quarter of 2015 in Europe's major markets with the iPhone 6 winning over Android smartphone users, it is being claimed.
Apple iOS smartphones made up over 20% of sales on the continent during the period. Industry analysts are claiming that almost a third of new Apple customers are former Android users.
Carolina Milanesi, Kantar Worldpanel ComTech's chief of research was reported in Latin Post as saying: "In the first quarter of 2015, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus continued to attract consumers across Europe, including users who previously owned an Android smartphone."
"On average, across Europe's big five countries (UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain) during the first quarter, 32.4% of Apple's new customers switched to iOS from Android."
Smartphone accessory producers are keeping a close eye on the strength of iPhone 6 range sales in the UK and across the English Channel. George Balfour-Kinnear of Boom Products, producer of the Shock-2 iPhone case range said: "The increasing popularity of Apple iOS is hardly surprising. The large screens of both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus made these smartphones much more versatile, especially for users who choose to video chat, watch movies and enjoy gaming while on the move. Apple was first out of the blocks with a quality big screen phone and that has left Android producers with some catching up to do."
Experts contend that the iPhone 6 with its 4.7in screen, and the iPhone 6 Plus with 5.5in display revitalised the fortunes of the iOS smartphone range. Sales continue to remain high across the world as customers find themselves with an attractive alternative to Android.
