(IT-NEWSWIRE.COM, July 11, 2015 ) Richmond, British Columbia -- There are new measuring tools that have been released lately that helps in completing measuring tasks easy and time-efficient. The new parametric tape measure and digital caliper will revolutionize the way people take measurements.
Cameron Bowen is a Royal College of Art graduate who came upon the idea of merging digital technology with traditional tailoring. He created the Parametric Tape Measure while studying on the Design Products course. This new tool makes use of parametric modelling software so that the user does not have to write down the measurements manually on paper.
"I really wanted to investigate the dialogue between digital fabrication and traditional craftsmanship," Bowen told Dezeen Magazine. He believes that high tech tools should not endanger the long-standing traditions of the tailoring world. That is why he created a tool that allows tailors to take measurements of their clients in the way they are accustomed to – only more efficient and technologically-advanced.
Bowen's creation along with the tactile interface for manipulating CAD environments and a "power glove" that aids in carving hard materials were included on the Show RCA graduate exhibition in London which ended last July 5.
The Adfilic digital caliper is another dimensional measuring tool which combined technology with conventional practices. The digital caliper is pretty much the same as the conventional caliper in terms of use but the manufacturer added a new feature – the LCD screen – to make it easier to see the readings. Calipers are usually used for measuring width, height, length and depth of very small items.
Adfilic is making the digital caliper available on the Amazon marketplace. There are other tools and small gadgets that have already made their way to the market. And technological advances are making it possible for innovators to come up with more tools that improve efficiency.
