At the time when first alligator hunt was announced in the year 2006, entries of only 50 tags were approved for the area of Alabama which was restricted to the west of US highway, East of US highway, and south of I-65 and north of mobile bay causeway.
A Recent report revealed that today, 150 tags are issued for the total area of 400 square miles. It also incorporates the public and private water bodies in Baldwin and mobile countries as well as in Clarke, Monroe and Washington counties.
Due to the encroachment of water area in the land, there can be an increase in the possibility of more interaction of alligators with the human which can result in some major mishaps. That is why the expansion of hunting area of alligators is the biological need, stated Mr. Nik.
Annoying alligators are the major problems in the narrow river areas. While encouraging hunters to spend time for hunting near the fish rivers of Dog Rivers on the west, Fish River on the east of the mobile bay. "We have recently noticed that people are not hunting in the South of the Causeway and in the places like Fish River and Dog River where the human population is gradually increasing," said Nik. The concerned body is continuously trying to increase the hunting in those areas to reduce the interaction of human with the alligators.
