Matron Dorothy Reese was at her home in Mayfair, Johannesburg, South Africa, when she found an abandoned baby on her doorstep. Ms Reese decided to keep the child and raise it and so Cotlands was born as an institution which looked after abandoned babies. Cotlands has changed its vision over the years and now helps children in five provinces in South Africa, touching the lives of over 8,000 children between the ages of 0 and 6. Cotlands tries to help children and their families by supporting them within their community through various outreach programmes. Cotlands is always looking at different ways to raise money to fund its efforts. Corporate sponsorship and personal donations are always very welcome, no matter how small. Volunteers are always needed to assist in the various projects. Cotlands also provides instruction on how to make simple toys which can be donated to the children to help them reach developmental milestones.
