Prettyman prepared for his intellectual property specialty with a diversified technical career. After his U.S. Navy service as a Corpsman, he worked as a nuclear engineer with the U.S. Navy, then managed quality engineering departments, finally moving into patent and intellectual property law and licensing.
He has worked with clients in the software, solar applications, electronics, medical and bio-medical, and design fields to safeguard their inventions from intellectual property theft. He also assists entrepreneurs with start-up services and advises businesses on effectively using the internet to boost sales
Prettyman graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from U. C. San Diego and earned his J.D. and a Master of Laws in Intellectual Property from Golden Gate University. He has been preparing and prosecuting patents since 2001.
He is a USPTO registered Patent Attorney and licensed in California and Minnesota. In addition to his U.S. work, he co-represents clients throughout the world, including Europe, Australia, China, Japan, and India.
Prettyman is married and lives in Pleasanton.
