(IT-NEWSWIRE.COM, February 27, 2015 ) Gilbert, Arizona -- It's human nature to want to be unique. So, despite the fact that the majority of Americans are currently carrying around the exact same phone—56 percent own a smartphone—one hot commodity always has room for competition: the case.
Olympia Dukakis broke it down perfectly in Steel Magnolias: "The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize." Which explains why survey findings from Shutterfly shows more than half of people who own an iPhone also own multiple cases, with 57 percent of those under 34 admitting the case was more for fashion than protection. (Luckily, only 34 percent of smartphone users are still clipping Bluetooths to their ears.)
Now, no longer content with choosing between chevrons vs. polka dots, choosy iPhone 6 users are demanding to class up their case by going for limited-edition works by bonafide artists. Throwing their names into that hat most recently are Chicagoan artists, husband-and-wife-duo Todd Treleven and Beth Trebelhorn.
Five limited-edition iPhone 6 case designs created by the pair are being released on February 27, 2015 in partnership with Havakk.com. Only 200 of each Artist Series case will be made available. The graffiti-esque "Eve" and whimsical "A Foot Taller" and "Heat" are Treleven's works, who says his art is "a stream of consciousness, mostly steeped in irony. I often start with a drawing done in mixed media and enhance the colors, layers and textures digitally."
Trebelhorn, who admits she's most comfortable with a knife in her hand (a palette knife, that is) created the very Zen-ish "Karma Head" and the vibrant "Color Grid". "I'm inspired by nature, color and my two sons," says the painter. "I strive for my art to be fun, imaginative and, in this case, instigate liberal emoticon texting."
