While an independent analysis has not been conducted by anyone yet, it's safe to say that the company has been receiving a fair amount of traffic. Though the company has confessed that a sharp rise such as the one reported over 36 hours caught everyone off guard.
Stunning Gadgets has said that the company is considering upgrading the current hosting platform to make enough room for an increasing number of visitors. There were reports of the site going down briefly under heavy load. That said the company does not host a lot of video or audio content which may have made it easier to recover from the traffic. Plus, the company has a dedicated IT department with the sole purpose of preventing sudden crashes and the system slowing down owing to an increased number of visitors. That said when large businesses can often be crippled under heavy loads like when the XBox One was launched a year or so back, then it's not hard to imagine Stunning Gadgets suffering the same fate. Though the company has just barely hit a million visitors this year with the help of the Pocket Chainsaw promotions.
"We were surprised to see that our servers were barely being able to cope with the load. We then double checked the figures and saw that there was an increase of over 120% in traffic. Even our best estimates didn't predict this much traffic over the course of just 36 hours. A lot of the traffic was coming from America, but there was an increase in traffic from Europe and Asia. This is of course baffling and we are still in the process of investigating it because it literally slowed everything down at the server level." said the IT manager for Stunning Gadgets "We are trying to make sure that it was not an attempted DDOS (denial of service attack).
Stunning Gadgets has said that certain systems within the network may need to be upgraded and a system will have to be put in place to prevent denial of service attacks. Though the company has said that such an issue was not considered seriously in the past, but now there is a very real possibility of there being a genuine increase in traffic with the help of the best gadgets niche.
